TIA ACC WRISTBAND IS REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION TO ALL TIA ACC JAZZ EVENTS

 

Entrance Requirements

  • TIA Region membership and performance bond
  • TIA Atlantic Coast Championship/Wildwood Weekend Registration (contact wildwood@njatob.org)
  • TIA ACC Jazz participation is open to all TOB/TIA member schools through registration  

Fees 

Classifications 

Four (4) competitive classes will be offered: 

  • MIDDLE SCHOOL is for programs whose students are in grades 6 - 9, (including Middle School and Junior High School programs). Arrangements written for Grades 1,2 and 3 technical demands.
  • A CLASS is for developing programs with limited instrumentation and resources. (Arrangements - Grade 1, 2 & 3)
  • OPEN CLASS is for established scholastic competitive programs. (Arrangements - Grade 4 & 5)
  • WORLD CLASS is for mature ensembles playing at the highest competitive level, including High School and University ensembles. (Arrangements - Grade 6/ professional)

Performance Requirements

Each music ensemble is required to play three(3) selections for a minimum of fifteen (15) and not more than twenty (20) minutes of music. There are no required musical selections. However, programs are expected to be well balanced and provide sufficient variety of styles for valid adjudication.

TIA JAZZ SET-UP - In an effort to minimize logistics, all ensembles are requested to conform to a "traditional" Big Band setup configuration: 1st row - saxes; 2nd row - trombones ;3rd row - trumpets. The rhythm section at stage level to the audience's left of the horns. The stage sound system with one(1) solo microphone will be used by all ensembles.

Adjudication 

Three approved NJA Adjudicators will be used for the TIA ACC events. The NJA panel will be staffed with adjudicators who have a teaching and/or performance background in their respective caption. Band Directors are asked to provide three(3) scores for the adjudicators to use for your performance.

Adjudicator Biographies

Scoring 

All classes will be judged on a scale of  70-100. Each judge will rank and rate each ensemble while providing recorded commentray for the director. The three judge's total scores will be averaged to determine the achievement levels and placements. There will be no penalties assessed. However, the Chief Judge may disqualify a unit for disruptive conduct and/or flagrant abuse of our operating procedures.

Awards 

Scores and placements will be announced for each group in each class, as well as their achievement level: 

  • SUPERIOR (GOLD LEVEL 95-100)
  • OUTSTANDING (SILVER LEVEL 86-94.9)
  • EXCELLENT (BRONZE LEVEL 80-85.9)
  • GOOD (FESTIVAL LEVEL 70-79.9) 

Specialty awards (soloists, sectional awards, etc.) will also be announced. Ensembles will receive individual score sheets and a recording of each judge's comments.TIA Atlantic Coast Championship medals and flag will be presented to the first place ensemble in each class.

We will again offer partiipation, at no additional cost, in the TIA All-Star Jazz Band to all participating bands in Wildwood. Details will be available starting in February once TIA ACC registration is closed.
