Advancing the Performing Arts Since 1960
Through fair adjudication, professional development, and student scholarships, NJA empowers ensembles and educators across the mid-Atlantic and beyond.
The National Judges Association (NJA) provides professional adjudication services for the Tournament of Bands (TOB) and Tournament Indoor Association (TIA), supporting nearly 200 events each year with about 2,500 judge assignments. Founded in 1960, NJA is the parent organization of TOB and remains dedicated to advancing the pageantry arts through fair evaluation, education, and growth opportunities for both performers and instructors.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational corporation, NJA offers training clinics, workshops, and performance opportunities throughout the eastern United States. Each year, NJA also awards scholarships to graduating seniors from member schools, helping students take the next step in their education.
Today, NJA includes more than 150 certified judges, with new adjudicators advancing through a comprehensive training and certification program in music and visual captions. Beyond TOB and TIA, NJA members also proudly serve other organizations, including WGI Sport of the Arts, (WGI), Drum Corps International (DCI), as well as a portfolio of community and service organizations such as the Elks, Shriners, and Lions Clubs at the state, national, and international levels – extending their expertise to parades, festivals, and community events across the country.
