TIA JAZZ will be offering three competitive classes for 2010:
A Class Jazz is for developing programs with limited instrumentation and resources (including Middle School and Junior High School programs) Arrangements written for Grades 1,2 and 3 technical demands.
Open Class Jazz is for established scholastic competitive programs. Arrangements written for grade 4 and 5 technical demands.
World Class Jazz is for mature ensembles performing at the highest competitive level. Arrangements written for grades 5 and 6 technical demands.
Performance Requirements Each ensemble must play a minimum of fifteen, but not more than twenty minutes of music. There is no required musical program. However, programs are expected to be well balanced and provide sufficient variety for valid adjudication (for example: Swing, Ballad, Latin, Blues, Jazz/Rock). In an effort to minimize logistics, all ensembles are requested to conform to a "traditional" Big Band setup configuration: 1st row saxes; 2nd row trombones (8" risers); 3rd row trumpets (16" risers). The rhythm section setup at stage level to the audience's left of the horns. The host sound system will be used by all ensembles. Please contact the host school for specific needs (i.e., solo mikes, monitors, etc.).
